School Uniform

uniform

We want the children who attend Hunslet Moor Primary School to feel they belong and have a real sense of pride in our school.

Wearing a uniform goes a long way to help prepare children for the school day and supports their positive participation in the life of the school. Our uniform is an outward sign of the schools’ identity within the neighbourhood. Children wearing uniform will represent our school at all times.

Uniform Policy October 2022 - October 2024

Uniform can be ordered from https://www.uniwears.co.uk (0113 2351256)

Hunslet Moor Primary School Uniform

  • White or Pale Blue polo shirt
  • Blue jumper
  • Grey/Black trousers/shorts/skirts/pinafore
  • Blue/White checked summer dress
  • Sensible footwear that is appropriate for school and the weather. We recommend Black Pumps or black/brown school shoes. For health and safety pupils should not wear high heels or open toe sandals
  • For health and safety, we ask that no jewellery is worn other than stud earrings
  • The schools embroidered logo or badge is optional

The importance to some pupils of the outward signs of faith is understood and recognised. Such items of clothing can be worn in a plain style and wherever possible we encourage that this incorporates the school colours of blue, black, white or grey. Parents are encouraged to discuss this issue with the Head teacher if they require further clarification ensuring a mutually acceptable outcome is achieved.

Expectations for our school community

Pupils

Pupils are expected to wear the correct uniform at all times (other than specified non-school uniform days) while:

  • On the school premises
  • Travelling to and from school
  • At out-of-school events or on trips that are organised by the school, or where they are representing the school (if required)

Parents and carers

Parents and carers are expected to make sure their child has the correct uniform and PE kit, and that every item is:

  • Clean
  • Clearly labelled with the child’s name
  • In good condition

Parents are also expected to contact a Co-Headteacher or Assistant Headteacher (via the school office or enquiries@hunsletmoor.co.uk) if they want to request an amendment to the uniform policy in relation to:

  • Their child’s protected characteristics
  • The cost of the uniform

Parents are expected to lodge any complaints or objections relating to the school uniform in a timely and reasonable manner and in line with the school’s complaint policy (this can be accessed on the school website or by requesting a paper copy form the school office).

Disputes about the cost of the school uniform will be:

  • Resolved locally
  • Dealt with in accordance with our school’s complaints policy

The school will work closely with parents to arrive at a mutually acceptable outcome.

Staff

Staff will closely monitor pupils to make sure they are in correct uniform. Where pupils are not following the school policy we will contact parents and carers to better understand why this is the case and work together to find a solution.

In cases where it is suspected that financial hardship has resulted in a pupil not complying with this uniform policy, staff will take a mindful and considerate approach to resolving the situation.

P.E. Kit

PE uniform

Physical Education is an important part of the national curriculum and we have a legal requirement to ensure this is taught regularly. We expect all children to take part in their timetabled PE lessons every week, where they learn how to have an active and healthy lifestyle. An active childhood gives a great basis for an active and healthy adulthood.

We believe that all children who attend Hunslet Moor Primary School should take part in PE and therefore all must have a suitable PE kit. Therefore, we provide a free PE kit for all children in school, which must be worn on their correct PE day.

We ask for the support of all parents and carers in ensuring that appropriate PE kit is worn to school on the day their child has a timetabled lesson (PE timetables are shared with all parents/carers at the start of each term).

Our PE uniform includes:

  • a white t-shirt with school logo
  • black jogging bottoms
  • suitable trainers or pumps (for indoor PE)

Where children are repeatedly forgetting to bring suitable PE kit class teachers will contact parents/carers to see how we can support.

Health and Safety in PE

Hair

Children with long hair must have their hair tied back in order to participate safely in P.E. lessons.

Headscarves

Headscarves, worn for faith or cultural reasons, must be secured safely and be sufficiently tight fitting to prevent any part being caught on equipment or interfere with vision at any time.

Nursery Uniform

Nursery clothing and uniform

We are very proud of our school uniform and encourage Nursery children to wear it if they wish.

In Nursery if parents/carers would prefer that their child does not wear a school uniform, they can come to school in their own clothes. Please be aware that young children often get messy when they are learning so we advise that parents/carers do not send their child to school in their ‘best clothes’.

In Nursery and Reception we work inside and outside in all weathers so please make sure your child comes to school with suitable clothing as shown below:

  • Cold weather-warm coat that can be fastened, hat, gloves
  • Wet weather-wellington boots, coat with a hood
  • Very hot weather- sun hat, sun cream applied before school

Shoes and footwear

As we encourage children to run, climb and balance in our outside area, please make sure they are wearing appropriate and sensible shoes. Trainers and flat shoes are most suitable. To keep children safe we ask that children do not wear strappy sandals or high heels.

Jewellery

For health and safety, we ask that no jewellery is worn other than stud earrings.

pre loved uniformWe have made all parents aware of support they can access for previously owned school uniform (these posters are also around our school):

In support of all families, children will be issued with a free PE kit in September which will be a t-shirt and a pair of jogging pants per child. Children are expected to come to school in PE kit on their PE days. Class teachers will share with parents/carers and children when PE days are at the start of the new term. Kits will be given to children once back in school in September. Children will only be issued with one kit, if lost or a child grows out of the kit then families will need to purchase new PE Kit. Please see Sian Bates (PE lead for any queries of further information relating to the PE timetable or issuing of PE kits).
